to hear another soul above the din of one’s own selfish ambitions
to see the pain of another past present challenges
to ask “why” when all falls apart
… life falls apart a little everyday, sometimes in big ways and often in small ways. Be it injuries, difficult relationships, work set backs, health concerns, tough grades, new material to learn, bills to pay – pieces of life crumble each day.
So look to the sea, to the waters. Find the glue that brings things back the fluid. What helps it all hold together?
To the sea… to water. Mentioned in the Bible many times, water is a central theme. In the second verse of the first book of the Bible, it is written that “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” All was dark, even the waters. There was no light. And yet… and yet, God’s Spirit hovered over those dark waters. He was there. He is there in the darkest parts of life, for He created this world and this life. And He loves His creation and brings light to it.
A friend’s family is going through an exceptionally difficult time. I cannot even describe it, and I definitely do not know what to say to them. I often do not succeed in letting my knowledge and past experience of God’s love shine through me when I encounter challenges in my own life, so I humbly recognize I am no role model. If we could just see the Spirit of God breathing over the dark waters with the next day bringing light as God structures the place of the waters perhaps we could better receive comfort and trust Him.
I cannot organize the waters of this planet in any significant way, but He did. He can sort out those difficult places of the heart or tragic situations. I can’t, but He can.
God, may we see Your Spirit moving above the waters of life. Show us what we cannot do but what You can.
